Golf Courses

Saint Andrews Old Course
The oldest golf course in the world has many remarkable features which help make it so special to golfers around the world. It is the Home of Golf where golf was first played 600 years ago and yet it remains a real test of golf for today's champions. Despite its reputation and status, it is a public course and is one of six public courses on
Saint Andrews Links. The Old Course has evolved over time and was not designed by any one architect. The people who played a major role in shaping it are Daw Anderson (1850s), Old Tom Morris (1860s- 1900)and Dr Alister Mackenzie (1930s). The course is known for its particular physical features including 112 bunkers, some of which are especially famous e.g. 'Hell' on the long 14th, 'Strath' on the short 11th and the Road Bunker at what is probably the most famous golf hole in the world, the 17th or Road Hole (so called because a road - which is in play - runs hard against the back edge of the green). Another peculiar feature of the Old Course is the double greens where the outward and inward holes are cut on the same putting surface. These greens are large, not surprisingly, and golfers can be faced with putts of almost 100 yards.

Saint Andrews New Course
Rated 38th in Golf World's top 100 courses in the UK in 2002, the New is a classic links course Opened in April 1895, the course was built in response to increasing demand for golf at
Saint Andrews, both from locals and from the visitors who were flocking to the town in increasing numbers on the recently constructed railway. The result is a classic links course which uses the natural features of the land to create a first class golfing challenge. The course has the traditional out and back layout, with the 18th green just to the right of the first tee. It also has, in the great Saint Andrews tradition, shared fairways and even a double green at the 3rd and 15th holes. It has frequently been said that if the New Course were not situated next to the Old, then its star would have shone with a far greater degree of brilliance.

Kingsbarns golf course
The Kingsbarns Golf Links site has long been known for its intimate connection with the sea. The fact that it's golf origins date back to 1793 is testimony to the attributes of the site which foster ideal conditions for links turf to flourish amid interesting natural terrain. This unique part of East Fife has sandy soils, undulating ridges and hollows, Cambo burn running into the sea, all set immediately against the rugged coastline of the North Sea. Kingsbarns Golf Links is a tribute to its rich Scottish links heritage.

Saint Andrews Castle Course

Saint Andrews Castle Course is the last jewel opened in 2008 at Saint Andrews. In the tradition of the pure links, it plays on cliffs overlooking the sea and the historic townscape below, making for one of golf's more unique stages. It comes complete with blind shots, cliff carries, severely sloped greens and stunning vistas (you can see Saint Andrews Bay from every hole, and the city from most greens and/or tees). Given the preponderance of blind tee shots and visual illusions around the greens, first-time visitors are strongly encouraged to heed the advice of their caddie.

Saint Andrews Bay “Kittocks Course“ : 17/20

Bruce Devlin's experience and expertise have provided the Devlin with its innovative and exciting character.  It is a truly magnificent 72par, 7,049 yard championship course that sweeps its way along the rugged seaside landscape.  This as yet, undiscovered gem begins by innocently easing the golfer into a false sense of security, offering wide, well manicured fairways that wind around man-made water features and risky bunkers, teasing the golfer with a mix of par fours and fives. Then it is onto the par 5, 7th where the walk to the tee signals the beginning of the roller coaster style ride up, over and around the rugged wilderness of Kittock's Den.  These ridge holes open up to the panorama of the white water crashing on the rocky shoreline below and over the body of the North sea to the Grampian mountains which dominate the horizon.  The ever-changing ambience of this vast and spectacular view heightens the experience for the golfer.
